Equestrian Introduction

equestrianWelcome to STE – St Teresa’s Equestrian. STE follows the same values as St Teresa’s, including the belief that there is no ‘one size fits all’ and that individuals, both human and equine, should be treated as such. This translates into Equestrian endeavours directly – the essence of great riding experiences is in the partnership between horse and rider, and the teamwork and empathy necessary to create great performances stem from a deep understanding of the individual horse and the individual rider. Our horses, our riders and our coaching staff are all unique in their backgrounds, skills and experience, and we take great care to fit the horse to the rider and coach appropriately.

Our facilities are first class and provide a beautiful setting. We offer lessons tailored to individuals from School Year 1, starting with private lessons on the lead rein. We teach both children and adults, and as well as being a licensed Riding School (GBC licence number RE23), we are a Pony Club Centre, BHS Approved, and ABRS approved. As we have a lovely collection of mostly privately owned ex-competition horses and ponies to teach with, and top class instructors and coaches, we can then take our riders up to Medium level dressage movements, and jumping courses to 1m, both show jumping and arena eventing. And we also offer glorious hacking in the Surrey countryside, both on and off site.

We operate 12 months of the year, 7 days a week. As well as term time lessons primarily for our St Teresa’s girls, we offer daytime and weekend lessons, and holiday Pony Days. We offer National Schools Equestrian Association (NSEA) participation for those who wish to represent St Teresa’s in both individual and team competitions, and an international summer school riding experience for our many international visitors.

Our facilities, horses and our coaching team are all first-class. Together we are dedicated to creating outstanding equestrian experiences, through the STE core values:

STE is located in the beautiful grounds of St Teresa’s, Effingham, in the idyllic Surrey Hills. The school has made significant investments into a wonderful American barn, with a kitchenette for staff, tack room, external toilet, internal toilet and shower room, upstairs store room and an upstairs classroom. The riding takes place primarily in a spacious 60m x 30m sand-and-fibre outdoor arena, which can contain either size of dressage arena, Jump4Joy show jumps or a JWS/JAS jumping course. Because of its extra width it makes a wonderful Pony Club Games venue. Hacking is on site on our wooded or grassland hacking tracks or, for more experienced riders, we can venture out onto miles of Ranmore Common and the extensive Surrey Hills’ tracks and rides.

STE is primarily a riding school, and we welcome pupils from the school from Year 1 onwards, as well as (when space allows) welcoming parents, other children and other adults to enjoy the horses and teaching available. We have a wonderful range of horses and ponies, which we keep schooled to a high standard, and they are suitable for a wide range of riders to enjoy. Our specialist coaches are second to none. We operate 7 days a week: 6 days a week with the STE horses and ponies, and those pupils with their own ponies stabled off-site may bring them to the school to use the facilities on Sundays when we run training clinics. So, please get in touch.
