Competition Reports 2023
At the end of October we had a group of our brilliant NSEA riders head up to Addington for a weekend at the National Schools Equestrian Association Championships.
We had riders representing STE in both the National Championships and the Plate Championships in most disciplines on offer at the Championships
A huge congratulations to the following riders who represented the school so beautifully at the Championships:
Amber B, Chloe B, Emily R, Izzy L, Jess R, Lilly S, Lottie B, Lulu S, Pernille A, Rosie C, Antonia S,
All of the girls did themselves, their ponies and the school proud in the way they conducted themselves and supported each other regardless of whether their rounds had gone to plan or not. They also came home with an incredible list of results, the highlights are below:

Pop-up Dressage – ๐ฟ๐ข๐๐ข ๐ 1st
NSEA 9 and 10th September 2023
A hot weekend was had by lots of our NSEA riders to attend the Show Jumping, JwS and Dressage Qualifiers at Felbridge on Saturday with some fantastic results.
The dressage team of Lilly S, Rosie C, Saskia TvV and Lulu S finished a brilliant 3rd with an individual 3rd for Lulu and 6th for Rosie. Lulu S also competed in the Elementary dressage as an individual scoring a fantastic 72.5% for 2nd and picking up her qualification for the National Championships in October.
In the Show Jumping Arena there were some fab results at 1m for Izzy L and Pernille A building confidence and consistency with every outing. In the 80cm both Jess R and Lilly S jumped double clear to finish just outside the placings.
Our 70cm team took home the result of the day with a brilliant team win, despite only being a team of three! But Jess R, Rosie C and Emily R all jumped clears to finish on a score of 0 in a faster time than the team in 2nd and picking up their qualification for the finals at Addington in the process.
Finally, Lulu S picked up a 3rd in the 1m JwS which has qualified her as an Individual for the Championships!
A huge well done everyone and what a great way to kick start the new term!
5th and 6th August 2023
A huge congratulations to Amber B on some fantastic results with her ponies over the last couple of months.
With British Showjumping she finished top of the Bronze League in the South East table and 6th Nationally, qualifying her for the Nationals where she had the fastest time, but an unfortunate pole kept her off the top spot of the podium. She also had a 4th place in the 128cm Stepping Stones Final.
Last weekend she was part of the Mid Surrey PC Team at the Hickstead Pony Club Show Jumping. An incredible day with a WIN in the 80cm out of over 100 competitors and then backed it up with a 2nd in the 90cm!
A huge well done from all of us at STE, we are very proud
NSEA Championship 30th June 2023
Last Friday we had a really exciting day as 9 NSEA riders were lucky enough to head to The All England Jumping Course, Hickstead for the prestigious Hurst School Show Jumping Championships.
The day started very early for our Juniors with a 7.30am start in the Preliminary round. Great rounds from Amber B and Antonia S for four faults each. Claudia B jumped a confident round for eight faults. Last to go for the team was Jess R who jumped a brilliant clear round which gave her qualification for the International Arena later that afternoon. Lottie B was jumping as an Individual on her lovely new horse and after a miscommunication at the first fence then jumped a fab clear! Unfortunately, the team missed out on qualification for the main arena by 1 place but still finished in the top 50%!
The Senior team (u18s) were by far the youngest and on the smallest ponies, with three of our four riders still eligible for the Junior section but wanting to jump the bigger height. This didn’t put them off, with some incredibly mature riding way beyond their years. Inde W and Izzy L both jumped great rounds with just a couple of small mistakes. Pernille A showed experience beyond her years and retired before the last line when her pony was full of confidence. Chloe B jumped the most beautiful round other than a miscommunication at one fence for 4 faults. So, no qualification for any of the senior team this year but they will have learnt so much and excitingly it was just their first try!
In the International Arena, Jess R was one of 6 clear rounds in the Individual section out of 30 in the first round of jumping. An unfortunate 4 faults in the jump off left her just out of the placings but it was a fantastic performance from Jess and Mandy who are still a very new combination – I think we will be seeing lots of great results from them in the future!
Very proud of how well they all rode – well done everyone!
NSEA 10th and 11th June 2023
It was a busy and warm weekend for lots of our students and their ponies who headed out competing.
On Saturday Izzy L was jumping in the British Showjumping, British Novice 2nd rounds and produced a triple clear for 6th place and a qualification to the National Finals in August
Meanwhile Inde W was enjoying taking part in the Shetland Pony Grand National over the weekend at the South of England show.
On Sunday we had lots of riders taking part in the NSEA show jumping and Combined Training show at Felbridge with some brilliant results.
In the Grassroots competition, Florence B jumped two super rounds in the 50cm and 60cm for a beautiful double clear in the 60cm and 10th place.
In the 70cm Emily R was taking part in her first competition for STE and jumped a brilliant double clear for 6th place!
In the 75cm, Rosie C competed as an individual for a great clear and 12th place in a big class.
In the 85cm we had a team of Chloe B, Lilly S and Rosie C who finished 7th. Chloe B was 6th individually and Lilly S was 9th.
In the 95cm Chloe B rode a super round for individual 3rd and qualification for the NSEA Champs at Addington in September whilst Lilly S had 4 faults but still finished in the top half.
Lilly S was also competing in the Combined Training and had a brilliant day, with a 1st and a 3rd in the 80-85cm class with two 70%+ scores and clear jumping rounds. She also had a 3rd in the 90-95cm class with another +70% dressage score and an unlucky 4 penalties in the jumping.
Unfortunately, the show then had to be abandoned before the 1m class as we had a huge storm and the whole showground disappeared under water which was such a shame.
Elsewhere Antonia S was out eventing for her Pony Club. She did a 29 dressage and jumped double clear to finish on it for 3rd in the 80cm.
25th and 26th March 2023
On the last weekend in March, Lilly S went to BCA for the JwS (Jumping with Style) qualifiers. She had an amazing day winning both the 80cm and the 90cm, winning the 90cm by over 13 penalties!
Over the 1st/2nd April weekend, our grassroots riders had some great results at Coombelands. In the 60cm Jess R was 6th and Rosie C was 9th, both with double clears. In the 70cm the team of Jess R, Rosie C and Abbie K took a great win, with Rosie finishing 3rd and Jess 9th, qualifying the team for the Grassroots Champs at Hickstead in August!
19th March 2023
On Sunday 19th, Claudia B competed at the Arena Eventing Championships at Pycombe and came 6th in 70cm and 9th in the 80cm. Well done Claudia!
NSEA 25th and 26th February 2023
An incredibly busy weekend for the STE NSEA teams; two venues, two disciplines, heights from 40cm-1m, some riders at their first competitions and with new ponies, great riding, great team spirit and they all went back to school for a rest on Monday!
At Merrist Wood show jumping on Saturday, Claudia B went double clear in the 70cm for 8th and Harriet L jumped a brilliant double clear at her first ever competition.
In the 80cm we had two teams, the Blue team of Amber B (individual 4th), Lilly S and Saskia TvV all jumped double clear for 2nd place, and qualified for the Champs in October. Meanwhile the Green team of Claudia B, Antonia S (10th) and Pernille A finished 4th, qualifying for the Plate Champs in October.
The 90cm team of Amber B, Lilly S, Chloe B and Izzy L finished 2nd, also qualifying for the Champs in October with an individual 4th for Chloe and 7th for Amber.
Onto Sunday, and it was a very busy day at Coombelands with Arena Eventing and Show Jumping going on.
In the Arena Eventing Pernille had a great round in the 70cm to finish just outside the top 10. In the 80cm there were lots of great rounds jumped but highlights were an individual 4th for Lilly S and 9th for Amber B.
The 90cm team of Lilly S, Chloe B and Lulu S finished 4th, with Lulu placing 4th and Chloe 5th individually.
Lulu S also did the 1m as an individual to come 7th.
In the showjumping, Holly C and Jess R both had great rounds in the 50cm for a double clear finishing just outside the placings. In the 60cm Jess R finished 2nd, and Antonia S also finished 2nd in the 80cm.
In the 90cm Windsor Qualifier the team of Amber B, Chloe B, Antonia S and Izzy L put in a strong performance to finish on 4 faults and 5th out of 12 teams, with Chloe finishing 3rd individually out of 45 riders.
A mammoth weekend and a huge thank you to all the parents, supporters and riders for all their hard work and representing the school so well! We are very proud and look forward to continuing the great teamwork and camaraderie throughout the rest of the year and beyond!
NSEA February Half Term 2023
The NSEA riders have had a busy half term.
Some riders were out competing at the NSEA County Challenge dressage at Parwood as well as the Pony Club Spring Championships held at Arena UK.
At Parwood, Lilly S and Teddy were crowned County Challenge Prelim Champions as the only combination to achieve over 70%. Rosie C and Briggs were very close behind in 3rd with over 69%. Rosie also did a great test with Majyk for 7th.
At Arena UK for the Pony Club Spring Championships, Lulu S had a very successful show finishing 3rd in the Novice warm up class with +69% and then winning her arena in the Intermediate Championship with another +69% score. Well worth the long trip up to Grantham!
We then enjoyed a great afternoon of show jumping training here at STE on Thursday and over the weekend we had several riders out competing.
Lilly S was at Felbridge NSEA showjumping, jumping double clear in the 80cm and the 90cm for 9th and 12th in large classes.

Well done everyone – keep up the good work!
28th and 29th January 2023
Another successful weekend for some of our NSEA riders.
Lulu S and Wesley were competing in the Pony Club Spring Dressage Qualifiers at Novice and Intermediate level. They secured two fantastic scores of 70.4% and 74.5% to finish 2nd in both classes and qualifying themselves for the Finals at Arena UK in February!
Meanwhile Abbie K was 2nd in the 70cm Show Jumping at Felbridge.
Well done all!
NSEA Merrist Wood 15th January 2023
It was a brilliant weekend of competitions for some of our NSEA riders who headed to Merrist Wood for the Arena Eventing competition on Sunday 15th January.
Lots of super riding, happy ponies and great results.
