Sports Update: 12 December 2019

The final week of term has seen our U13 and U12 rugby teams notch up wins against Sevenoaks, all the Year 4 boys (U9s) play superbly against Northcote Lodge, and an U11 side perform admirably at the Danes Hill festival (see reports and results on the sports portal, via the Cranmore website). House rugby has also been taking place across the whole school as well as various house challenges and competitions within netball and hockey lessons.

Members of the squash squad played against Lanesborough across the U10, U11 and U13 age groups. All three age categories were won by Cranmore with some great squash taking place. Well done to all involved!

With the term coming to the end, it seems fitting to reflect on a superb period of sport at the school. Highlights have included: Playing over 200 matches and regaining the Henkes shield in the football season, the U8 netball team winning the team of the tournament at Cranleigh, squash squads remain unbeaten in regards to fixtures against other schools, Surrey Champions and ESSKIA National Skiing Champions at U11 level, rugby season starting very strong, Igor sets 2 new records at British Indoor Rowing Championships and, finally, the recent news that the school has been nominated in the ‘Top 50 Prep School Schools for Cricket’ for the second year in a row (The Cricketer Magazine).

Regarding cricket, it has been great to see so many children attending the winter cricket nets on Monday and Tuesday lunchtime plus the winter golf training on Thursday for our keen golfers. These will continue in the Easter Term.

I would just like to take this opportunity to thank all the sports staff and specialist coaches for their ever constant enthusiasm and commitment to delivering sport at Cranmore. On behalf of the sports department, we wish you all a Happy Christmas and New Year!

Mr Paul Hodgson, Director of Sport
