Our Director of Sport writes:

“We have had a superb start to the rugby season, including comprehensive wins for our U13s over St John’s Leatherhead, Reigate Grammar and CLFS. The Saturday morning quadrangular which involved playing three 20 minute matches, resulted in Cranmore scoring 12 tries and conceding none across the matches. This is a fantastic effort from these Year 8 (and Year 7) boys and is a testament to the rugby programme at Cranmore.

Equally as impressive were the performances from the U10 and U11 whole year groups. On Friday, the U10s travelled to St John’s Beaumont and on Saturday, both age groups hosted St George’s on the Henderson Fields. The style of rugby and the results produced are made even more impressive in the fact that both opposition schools have been playing rugby since the beginning of September (see results on the sports portal, via the Cranmore website or by using the SOCS mobile web app).

Last Wednesday, 48 members of our swim squad headed to KCS Wimbledon for the annual gala between both schools. Many Cranmore swimmers swam a year up (sometimes two years up) in age categories which made the very close result even more impressive.

Our U13 cross country team entered the Guildford District Trials at Charterhouse last week. With the impressive running on show from Cranmore pupils, we are hopeful that some of our runners will qualify to represent the district.

Cranmore U8s netball teams hosted Cranleigh on Thursday with two matches being played. A lot of the skills and training concepts came to fruition on the afternoon, resulting in two fantastic performances. Mrs Attree was beaming ear to ear and was clearly very proud of the girls. On Monday, our U9s girls hockey teams played in two competitive matches against Downsend.

Members of our squash squad had the very fortunate opportunity in watching professional squash players showcase their skills at the Channel VAS Championships at St George’s Hill. The exhibition event allowed the pupils to see the fitness and skill levels of these top players up close. This included meeting the World Number 2 Squash player Mohamed Elshorbagy, as well as Mazen Hesham and Borja Golan.”

Another busy week in the sports department!
