Competition Reports 2019

NSEA Sands Farm – Grass Roots Regional Show Jumping Championships Sunday 24th Nov 2019

On Sunday afternoon four riders went out to Sands Farm having qualified for the Regional Championships.

Our team all rode well – with two clear rounds and two unfortunate eliminations – the team ended up in third place and got to take a goodie bag as well as a rosette home with them! Congratulations to all the girls who competed!

International Show Jumping Sentower Youth Show, Belgium 14th to 17th November 2019

Amelie had a really successful show last month at the youth championships in Belgium. She took Precious, 7yo Coquette and Charity who all picked up placings through the week. Coquette started the week with a 6th in the Small tour and finished 5th in her Final on Sunday. Charity had an unlucky show just having a fence each day but feeling great. Lastly, Precious jumping clear in every class picking up a 3rd on Saturday and jumping great in the Big tour Grand Prix just to have a fence in the jump off! Now for them all to have a break ready for next season! Congratulations Amelie!

NSEA Keysoe – plate championships 70cm SJ team Saturday 16th Nov 2019

We were all so excited to have a team qualify for the 70cm show jumping at the NSEA “Plate” Championships (for those placed 3rd to 6th at the various regional qualifiers).

Our team of Maddie, Cassie and Lulu all rode well – a flowing clear round for Maddie, a neat round for Cassie with just an unlucky pole down, and a really good start for Lulu, followed by an “unplanned dismount” as her pony took exception to fence 9! Congratulations to all on going all that way – it was a pleasure to support you.

NSEA Felbridge 9th November 2019

On Saturday 9th November, two NSEA riders took Felbridge by storm! With a slight change in ponies, Lulu entered the 70cm SJ and came away with a clear round and 4th place! Followed by a very close round and an unfortunate pole in the 75cm EC, ending up only 2 seconds off the optimum time and finally jumped clear in the 80cm SJ and came 4th! Maddy then entered the 80cm EC and came 3rd!
Congratulations girls, what an achievement!

BHS Ride Safe Exam Farm 2nd November 2019

NSEA Coombelands 5th October & Sands Farm 6th October 2019
International Show Jumping COH Nations Cup

Amelie produced double clear in the COH Nations Cup with The Precious One. Her outstanding performance contributed to the teams 5th place finish by coming home with a double clear and the fastest time in the jump off of the competition.
A single time fault in the Grand Prix kept her from the prizes but an impressive finish nonetheless. On her other horse, Charity 33, she claimed 3rd and 6th place finishes in the pairs first CSIO CH outing. Well done Amelie!

NSEA Felbridge 29th September 2019

With the weather undecided on rain or overcast, nine NSEA riders rode brilliantly for St Teresa’s at Felbridge on 29th September. A huge well done to everyone, but a special congratulations to Ava Mae, Cassia and Madeleine who led St Teresa’s to 6th place in the 70cm and qualified for the Championship Plate 2019! While not all went clear, everyone rode fantastic rounds and showed off tactical riding to get out of sticky situations!

GB team ended up in second place which was an amazing achievement as it just came down to one fence in the end. Amelie was very proud to make the podium and to experience jumping under such pressure. Amelie has been selected to represent GB again next week in Wierden Holland from 29-May -1June

We had two intrepid competitors in the NSEA Eventing (dressage, cross country and show jumping) at Munstead on Easter Saturday. Both had two super “double clears” (SJ & XC) and they finished in the placings. Mia on Cosmic was 12th and Issy on Pirate was a super 8th. Well done!

NSEA Keysoe Championship & Pony Club Dengie

Issy H did a wonderful job representing the school at the NSEA National ‘Plate’ Championships at Keysoe. Sadly not a clear round in her 80cm class, but it was a challenging course and only 6 out of 110 riders actually went clear. Well done Issy and Pirate.

Jenna B also did a great job representing STE Pony Club Centre at the Pony Club Dengie Dressage Qualifiers at Sands Farm. Well done Jenna and Grace.

NSEA Keysoe Qualification November 2018

NSEA Felbridge 30th September 2018

St Teresa’s had a great first competition of the season, with both Team and Individual entries from 40cm to 80cm. Everyone rode at their best, with lots of clear rounds, with a stunning 5th place (out of 170 riders) for Issy H, on Pirate, qualifying for the National Championship Plate. Congratulations to Issy H, Mia S, Lulu B, Katrina S, Victoria S, and Emma N and we look forward to the next competition

STE Competition 24th June 2018

Sunday 24th June we held another really successful small competition at STE. We concentrated on dressage, and had 6 keen riders entered for a Walk and Trot test or a Prelim test. The overall winner was our regular external volunteer, Fern H, and best STE pupil was Anna B, only a smidgeon behind, on Flora. All did brilliantly on a hot sunny day, especially Tess Wise who ran around with them all. Special thanks to the keen and supportive parents who provided drinks & delicious brownies!

NSEA Felbridge 17th June 2018

The NSEA competition on Sunday 17th June at Felbridge was a triumph for our girls. They have had so few outings this year due to the dreadful weather conditions earlier this season; however they made the most of the outing in the sunshine and all rode brilliantly. Livvy M came 2nd in the hotly contested Novice 28 Dressage, with 71.25% to qualify for the National Championships in October. And in the Elementary 42 test (the most advanced either rider has tackled to date) Livvy and Illy C came 4th and 5th respectively with decent scores. Very proud Alison!
We also had one of our STE ponies out playing – the wonderful Flora gained useful mileage for Jenna B in the Prelim 18 Dressage, and then turned her multi-talented hoof to looking after Anna B for a clear round in the 40cm Grass Roots jumping. What a star.

NSEA Merrist Wood Qualifier 3rd June 2018

Tallula B and Amelie G attended KBIS Arena Eventing Championships Qualifier at Merrist Wood College Arena, on Sunday 3rd June 2018. Tallula had a stop and two down, but rode very well over a tight and twisty “arena eventing” course with lots of skinnies and angles to jump. Well done Lulu! Amelie – won the Hickstead 1m10 qualifier and was first and third in the JWS qualifier for Keysoe in October 2018. Amelie was also successful qualifying at Hickstead on Monday 28 May and won 1M10 Hickstead qualifier for August. Well done Amelie!

STE Competition 20th May 2018

Our STE competition on Sunday 20th May was a triumph for our dressage riders who all rode their STE horses elegantly and effectively. We were very proud of both riders and horses!

1ST Jenna B Grace 76.2%
2nd Franzi V.S Havana 75.6%
3rd Anna B Flora 71.4%

Franzi and Anna then both jumped beautifully as well, gaining great experience for future competitions.

We have three of our girls featuring in a story, in the June ‘Pony Magazine’. We have a copy on the board in the office, or on our Facebook page.

BD Youth Oldencraig 21st April 2018

Olivia M and Captain did a wonderful job at the prestigious Oldencraig venue, against the best in Southern Region. Olivia rode a rather too relaxed Captain through her most advanced test yet, Novice 34, for 63.5% and a creditable 5th place, followed by the C squad “rider test” where the regional and national BD Youth team members were out playing too! She rode well in the heat and nailed a good score of 71.7%. Congratulations Livvy!

Pony Club Dengie Championship 18th April 201

Issy H competed in the Dengie Dressage National Championships at Addington Manor, and came 12th place in her section with a score of 65.21%. Great result for their first National Competition!

STE Competition 13th April 2018

Livvy M gained top dressage marks to be supreme in that and popped around a 60cm jumping course very elegantly. Illy C impressed everyone by riding a very good dressage test and also good jumping at 80cm. And we had a super debut from Connie C on Flora, with a stylish 50cm jumping round! A lovely morning.

NSEA Sands Farm 3rd February 2018

Issy H, on Pirate, and Amelie G, on Pepper, represented St Teresa’s in the 80cms show jumping at the National Schools County Novice Qualifier at Sands Farm on 3rd Feb. Freezing cold but a lot of fun!

Pony Club Merrist Wood 9th December 2017

In the Christmas holidays, Issy H rode for her Pony Club (Mid Surrey) and practiced some jump off turns at the 80 cms Dengie Debut Individual Show Jumping Competition. They rode a speedy round to come 3rd out of the 56 competitors and have qualified for the Areas. Well done Issy.

Pony Club Merrist Wood 9th December 2017

We had several St Teresa’s girls competing at Chiddingfold Farmers’ Pony Club Show, on Saturday 9th December at Merrist Wood. Issy H and Pirate jumped a fast and accurate round, in a large class, to come 3rd to qualify for the Dengie Debut Competition at 80cms. They also jumped in the Christmas Cracker Competition, speedily jingling over the jumps, to come 3rd. Well done!

Livvy M on Captain did a super round at 60cms and came 8th, and Mia S was placed 2nd in the 50cms.

NSEA Coombelands 3rd December 2017

Issy H represented St Teresa’s as an individual at the NSEA Eventers Challenge at Coombelands, on her horse, Pirate. Their time was very good as they cleared the show jumps but sadly on a challenging off set skinny jump rolled a pole to be out of the placings. Tough course as only 10 out of 50 competitors went clear. Looking forward to 2018 and hoping more girls will sign up and compete in the St T’s team for SJ and Dressage.

NSEA Sands Farm 26th November 2017 & Pony Club Dengie Qualifier

Congratulations to our brilliant showjumping 50cm team of Mia S (Dyno), Lulu B (Betty) and Flossie W (Number 4), who rode three super rounds to come 7th at the Grass Roots Regional Championships out of 16 teams, with Lulu 9th individually out of 37. Ones to watch for the future!

We had excellent results on 5th and 19th November at Coombelands, with Amelie G and Issy H both well placed. Congratulations girls!

Competitions October Half Term 2017

We have been out representing the school in force this term. Over half term the NSEA Schools National Championships up at Addington, Bucks, our two dressage stars, Livvy M and Soraya R, did us proud, in huge classes of all those who had qualified nationally.

Livvy M did a calm test in her Prelim National Championships (riding Prelim 19 in the long arena), with the odd distracted moment, for a creditable 61.47%. Then in the afternoon Soraya R did a superb job with her mare Maya in the Elementary National Championships to nail 12th place with 64.29%, riding Elementary 57 in the long arena in very impressive company. Congratulations to both girls – outstanding work!

Sands Farm Pony Club Dressage

Issy H and her new pony Pirate entered the Novice and Intermediate PC Dengie Dressage competitions at Sands Farm. They came 3rd in Novice and 2nd in Intermediate (there were only 8 in class but got 71.9%) so have qualified for Dengie Winter League in both. Congratulations Issy!

Coombelands Show Jumping

In the regular Coombelands competitions, the first was showjumping, where Issy H and Pirate nailed a 9th in the 70cm, and Amelie G with Mogwai did really well to be 9th in 1m and 2nd in the top class, the 1m10. Super performances!

Parwood dressage

Illy C and Oreo ventured out to Parwood’s Autumn/Winter (adult unaffiliated) series of dressage, and rode two good tests to score 66.15% in the prelim and 65.22% in the Novice, for 11th and 9th place respectively. Well done Illy!

Competition success – Livvy M in Year 7 with her horse Evington Captain, continued their successful run with a 1st place in the Pony Club Introductory test at the Chiddingfold Farmers Easter Monday competition at Eashing Farm. They also came 5th in the PC eventing test and 5th in the PC Novice, 2009, showing great consistency throughout the day. Livvy and Captain then topped this by going to the BYRDS (British Young Riders Dressage) ‘Spring Show’ at Oldencraig on Easter Sunday, coming 6th in her Prelim and an impressive 5th in the Rider Test ‘C’ Squad.

Pony Club Road Rider Test 12th March 2017

We are delighted to announce that all 3 of our Pony Club “Road Rider” Test candidates passed their Test in style on Sunday 12th March. The Road Rider is the highest test the Pony Club offers in road safety and encompasses a simulated road experience, with an external examiner. Well done to Ilyana C, Natalia S and Julia S, you were all a credit to St Teresa’s.

NSEA Oldencraig 5th March 2017

Olivia M and her pony Captain represented St Teresa’s at our first NSEA show of the term, held at the prestigious dressage venue, Oldencraig. Captain was a star, coping with the flags, swans and a very wet arena.

Pony Club Dengie Qualifier 28th/29th January 2017

Last weekend, Year 7 Olivia M took her pony Captain to Merrist Wood for Cobham Pony Club’s Area Dengie Qualifiers, coming a very creditable 8th place in the Novice Qualifier. Congratulations Livvy and Captain!

We ran our first Pony Club E tests on Saturday 28th January 2017. It was well attended and enjoyed by all. Everyone passed!
Congratulations to: Sophie F, Cassia C, Isabel C, Nicole F, Karina O, Hugo R, Emily R.

NSEA Addington Manor Championships 22nd October 2016

Over half term, Chloe D, Year 9, riding her wonderful pony Bella, represented St Teresa’s at the National Schools Equestrian Association Championships at Addington Manor. She rode a brilliant round for a fast time over a challenging 80cm course, in the main outdoor arena. She placed 12th after the first round (some were even faster but not so stylish!) so just missed the cut for the top ten to go through to the final round. Congratulations to Chloe and Bella.

NSEA Felbridge 19.06.16

Congratulations to the Felbridge St Teresa’s team today! Wow. Awesome clear rounds in 40 cm and 50 cm Grassroots classes from Annabel and Teddy. Annabel rode with great determination as he was only just moving in the warm-up -“economical” about covers it – but she pulled out an extra gear, in the 50 cm, and he responded and cantered the whole 10 fence course with ears pricked. In the seniors, Chloe D with Bella so nearly nailed their first 90/95 Qualifier, just nudging the second-last planks, whilst executing a superb turn, for 4 faults but a great time. Then in the 80 she nailed that completely by going clear in the fastest time of the day for 1st place and a qualification for the National Championships – out of a huge class of 130! Well done to both riders.

NSEA Felbridge 28.05.16

Although the forecast was for sunshine, the riders representing St Teresa’s arrived early at Felbridge to an overcast sky! The 70cm class in the main arena was very twisty and was catching a lot of riders out – especially the double going away from the warm-up arena. Chloe D was first in for St Teresa’s and rode a smooth, confident first phase, but took a stumble after fence 8 in the second phase. The longer route to fence 9 cost time, but speedy Bella still took 4th place in this hotly contested class. Isabella M with Saturn were on their first visit to Felbridge, which is particularly spooky in the main arena, so Saturn was on his toes! They were going really well until the balloons on either side of fence 7 distracted Saturn causing an unlucky stop. Isabella then rode intelligently to rebuild his confidence over the last few fences and save him for the next class.
The 80cm course was more flowing but the planks at 5 and the double at 10 were causing lots of problems early on. Again Chloe went first and was going brilliantly until a slight misunderstanding between fences 8 and 9 meant they crossed their tracks and were penalised with 4 faults. Isabella went in with more purpose and was going much better until they also fell foul of the bogey fence at number 5. I am not sure what is so terrifying about a few plastic bowls wired to the big orange cones on either side of the fence, but so many horses took objection to them! There is always another day (and perhaps some home-built spooky fences to practice with!).
In the grassroots arena, Maddie T was representing St Teresa’s in her usual dynamic style! They went brilliantly round the 60cm course in a good time, but a pole down meant that they finished out of the placings. However, a few tight turns and leaving all the poles standing in the 70cm Maddie managed to hold onto 6th place in another hotly contested class.
Grassroots report by Maddie T: “On 28th May I took Mystic Noir to Felbridge with the aim to qualify for the grass roots championships to be held in the autumn. The sun shone and although I had an unlucky pole in the 60cm I was placed 6th out of approximately 85 people in the 70cm so we are going to the champion ships. I was so proud of my pony. He looked and felt incredible.”

NSEA GBEC 22.05.16

Our largest ever contingent of girls went out competing this Sunday, representing St. Teresa’s in a competition against other schools. All our riders had a good time and many came home with lots of ribbons, others with some fresh ideas on what they might need to work on to improve next time out.

Seniors report by Emma M, Equestrian Prefect: “On Sunday 22nd May, Emma M, Chloe D and Isabella M with their horses Kia, Bella and Saturn competed in the 80cm show jumping class at Great Bookham Equestrian Centre. Despite the slippery ground conditions the horses jumped well and the team finished in 3rd place. Congratulations to Chloe and her pony Bella for winning the 70cm show jumping class! Well done to everyone who took part, it was a very successful day for St T’s and was enjoyed by all!” (Picture right Seniors Show jumping Team (left to right – Emma M on Kia, Isabella M on Saturn and Chloe D on Bella)
On the other side of the showground, the Grassroots riders dominated their arena in style. We had a large contingent of riders who were at their very first competition and coped amazingly. Everyone tried their very best and most of the ponies were on their very best behaviour (but there’s always one who is a bit cheeky!). The dressage riders doing the walk and trot test took 1st-5th place and also 7th, 9th and 10th!

The course was particularly demanding with some big jumps and lots of twists and turns for those who were doing their first show jumping event, but all the riders rose to the occasion. Three of this team were entered into a combined training event where their dressage and show jumping scores were added together to give an overall score – they were placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd in this class too! As you can imagine, by the time we got to the 50cm class towards the end of the day both the ponies and riders were beginning to tire so we will have another go at that height another day. (Picture above – team course walk.)
Grassroots report by Mia S: “On Sunday a few girls from St. Teresa’s school went to an inter school dressage and show jumping competition – and for most of them it was the first one. Everyone did really well in the 40cm jumping. Lulu did especially well on Tango considering that she had only had two show jumping lessons previously. St. Teresa’s Team (Mia G, Mia S, Annabel W, Lulu B) came First against some stiff competition. St Teresa’s also did very well in the grass roots dressage and managed to qualify for the championships in November 2016.”

Grassroots report by Mia Sherazee: “On Sunday a few girls from St. Teresa’s school went to an inter school dressage and show jumping competition – and for most of them it was the first one. Everyone did really well in the 40cm jumping. Lulu did especially well on Tango considering that she had only had two show jumping lessons previously. St. Teresa’s Team (Mia Gibbs, Mia Sherazee, Annabel Wrigley, Lulu Banks) came First against some stiff competition. St Teresa’s also did very well in the grass roots dressage and managed to qualify for the championships in November 2016.”

This was the first event that our very own STE ponies went to and they were absolute stars, showing their very nervous riders the ropes. Our thanks go to their owners for letting us loan them and also for allowing the girls to take them out to shows. My personal thanks also go to the excellent yard team (particularly Lianne) who worked extremely hard to bath, plait and prepare the ponies for the show. (Picture above: STE ponies Tango and Flora)
Towards the end of the day there were some very stylish senior dressage performances from Soraya R and Emma M. In the Restricted Prelim Soraya rode a very bright Ellie into 7th and Emma rode a smooth test to take Kia into 12th. Soraya also won 6th place in the Novice class with Ellie and had a go at her first Elementary on Maya, strolling into 4th place. What great performances from these two aspiring stars.
A great big thank you goes out to all the riders who put in a lot of hard work preparing for the show, their wonderfully dedicated parents who came out in force to cheer, carry, wipe tears or take photos and generally support the whole team. We were thrilled to be supported by Mr and Mrs Farmer who came to watch and cheer on and some of the other school parents and girls who watched, learned and hopefully were inspired to have a go! I would also like to thank Alison Craig and Zoe Thurkle, who pulled out all the stops to get everyone organised and in the right place at the right time, helpfully assisted by Sylvia Buck (our wonderful new office administrator) who gave up her time to come and soothe nerves and keep everyone to time and Eleanor Craig-Fisher who must still be calling the walk and trot test in her sleep!
